When I first moved to China I spent months figuring out sheets. Now I feel stupid. But I like the system so well that when I move back to the states I am keeping the practice. It is actually very European.
You bed consists of 4 things...
1) mattress
2) flat sheet to cover mattress (still like fitted better)
3) duvet
4) blanket to keep warm.
The blanket goes in the duvet, Every week you wash the one sheet and the duvet. I have two of each. Let me tell you I sleep a lot better, and can make the bed in a flash. With one blanket you just feel like you are cuttled up. And you don't have to worry about sheets going one way while the bed cover goes the other way.
