Any thoughts on last night's show? I thought despite their deep-rooted issues, both Chris and Dale did very well by the end. I hope their relief can translate into some long term success.

I was mesmerized by the show, as usual. I can't say that I enjoyed it; what it gives me is something more visceral. Brings up all my issues re cleanliness and clutter. How am I like those folks? Can they overcome their problems? Can I overcome mine?
Yes, it seemed that both Chris and Dale had made some progress. But then both of them were much more functional than someone like Judi. There was some organization to their mess, and they weren't saving filth.
It would be interesting to revisit some people from earlier shows and see if they managed to keep things under control. Or possibly just to stare in guilty fascination at the catastrophes that followed their failures.

Revisiting some of the earlier hoarders is a good idea, Zora!

I would love to see follow-up shows, too! Also, I wish they would stick to one person per show -- I feel like I get a lot more out of it and really feel like I get more involved with the person's story instead of flipping back and forth between two people.
Great show, though - and how wonderful that the people on the show are willing to share their stories.

This episode was just okay for me. I do agree that they should just concentrate on one person. With the two different people, there's too much back and forth and too much text to read to keep aprised of what's going on.
For the reason that these two people had just stuff, as opposed to hoarding food or animals or filth, it didn't have that big of an impact on me. I guess the shock value isn't there, but it is bad enough to cause these people turmoil in ther lives. The one very special part was when the little girl visited her room for the first time and seeing the smile on her face.

I was struck, during Dale's story, by the conflict between Christina the professional organizer and Dr. Moore the clinician. Dr. Moore basically confronted Christina and was like, "your job is to clean out apartments and my job is the support the person, and unless we balance those two things, this whole effort will fail."
I'm an organizational change person, so this really hit me in terms of what it takes to get organizations (and the people within them) to change in a long-lasting way. I wrote a blog post about it here:
