I have an antique vanity table with a wide but shallow center drawer. None of the drawer dividers or organizers I've seen will fit--too tall. So I lined the drawer with non-skid "grip" liner (the kind I use to line the shelves in the kitchen) and it keeps everything (jewelry, makeup) in the drawer from sloshing around every time I open and close it.

I have just started the unclutterer process on my life. One place where I have had a small success is in storing my jewelry. I took an IKEA frame and used a staple gun to attach window screen to the back. I used an Ikea DIGNITET system to hang my Curtains and had left over hooks from the accessory pack sold with the system. It is called Dignitet Curtain ring with clip $4.99 / 24 pack. Using these hooks I hung necklaces. As the window screen is full of holes, earings will slide in an out easily. I can also store pins and rings as well.
This leaves all my stuff visible but out of the way. I love it!Posted 2 years ago # -
My solution for necklaces has been to repurpose an old cd organizer. I removed the cds to a storage sleeve and then was not sure what to do with the cases. I wound up removing the tops and insides and then putting them back in the organizer to make little drawers. I used the spine to label the drawers, you can sometimes fit more than one necklace in each depending on what it is. Pic here:

That CD storage idea is the coolest!

Depending on what you are wanting to display, there are many ways to make a nice looking display.
You can use graduated canisters (like you have in your kitchen) under a tablecloth or cloth remnant, boxes of different sizes, or bricks. You can also use an old louvered door -- buy hooks to hang on the louvers and hang items on the hooks -- paint it up with a cool texture paint. For displays, I have written a tutorial for really cheap displays that travel well, but it hasn't been published yet -- still waiting. They are super cheap, look nice and fold flat for travel. Keep an eye out for it.:)My wife tend to keep her displays very simple, however. She use a solid sheet/table cloth over my graduated level displays and I paint display stands a solid color (usually gray). This allows the jewelry to be the focus of attention, not the display. I do the same with my artwork -- simple mats and simple frames, so the artwork can speak for itself.
