Everything I find a necessity, gets space on the front page. On the little task bar is my text icon, phone, internet, and email; the things I use most. Games and time wasters have been relegated to other pages.

I don't have an iPhone (*cough* yet), but I guess I would sort the apps by category, and they could be
-- app content [ personal / work / fun ]
-- amount of usage [ daily / often / not that often / once a month ]
-- time of day [ breakfast / work commute / work / evening / workout routine ]
-- *drumroll* alphabetical! :oD
... whatever makes the most sense to you :o)Posted 1 year ago # -
When I first got my iPhone, I organized roughly into screens:
--Home - stuff I use all the time - weather, phone, calendar, mail, google, etc.
--Social - livejournal, facebook, twitter, qype, etc.
--Travel - maps, tripit, various translators, etc.
--Media - itunes, shazam, various ibook readers, various streaming media players, etc.
--Games - just like it sounds
--Shopping - ebay, paypal, amazon, etc.
and the notorious Misc. This system has... degraded as I've added apps, and many are frankly unused. I really need to go through it and purge. (The iHandy level would be so much handier if I lived in an apartment with any level surfaces!)

The stuff I use most often goes on the first screen. I find it most convenient to keep the indispensible stuff in the bottom row: Things, Calendar, Messages, and Notes. That way I can easily reach it with my thumb when I'm holding the iPhone with one hand (I have yet to master two-thumb typing). Other things are grouped together roughly by function on the second and third pages: readers, games & puzzles, local restaurant/entertainment apps, etc.

All apps I use every day go on the main screen. In the bottom row is Phone, Mail, Safari, and Messages (SMS). Other screens are dedicated to, in this order:
-Frequently used apps, but not every day
-games
-rarely used apps
-iPhone inherent apps that I don't use, but they don't allow you to delete (I NEVER use the stocks app, compass, or weather (I use weather.com app) and really with I could delete these) and other apps I almost never use (flashlight...it comes in handy once every 6 months or soNot all my screens are full. Some are half empty.
I evaluate the rarely used apps pages every week or 2 and delete those I am finally able to part with. After all, if I decide I do need you, I can download it again. Once you pay for it, you don't have to pay again to re-download.
