    vintage baby scissors

new nailpolish (swiped by my friend, haha)
    magnet fridge clip

Added to a little pile for my friend: eye makeup remover which she uses but which doesn't suit my eyes. And I hardly ever wear makeup...

    To donate:
my son decided to get rid of his noise-making light saber (he still has 6 different light sabers, but it's a start!)
    3 books

Book tally for Sept: 17 books donated
    2 purchased

I instigated a new regime with the children over the weekend (they are 10 and 7): they need to have their rooms tidy for inspection every morning. If there is ANYTHING left on the floor it will be confiscated for 1 month, then if it is a repeat offence it will be given away to someone who will look after it and appreciate it. Did the first check this morning: spotless!! (Rats, I was hoping to have something more to declutter, but I'm sure I will as the month progresses).

    Today, so far:

    Another big phone book
1 handmade photo album cover (nice, but not me)
5 new scrapbook covers: given to me, but I don't use that size
    10 cookbooks & craftbooks
    several small children's stencil books
1 photo album on a stand (too bulky for me)
3 books meant to hold recipes (I use a different method)
a dozen unused school folders (will give to a teacher)
    75-100 photographs (shredded)
a stack of old instruction manuals (hairdryers, irons, etc.) recycled
a stack of various paper stuff, recycled
2 pans, set aside to give to a family member who needs them.

    Edited to add:
Forgot to add to the list: about 40 old gift cards, credit cards, etc. - ran them through the cross cut shredder (it's made for it)

Just went & gathered up another carton of about 50 books.

I just went through my books a couple of weeks ago & got rid of two carloads! I have not bought more, but must have detached from additional books.

I could have sold many of these books at a local shop. However, the prices they pay are ridiculous. I'd rather just donate to charity, with or without the tax write-off!

How many blasted phone books were there in this house? I found yet another one. Into the recycling bin with that blasted thing.

20 more books into the donate box in the back of the car! It's going to be another shopping cart full by the time I take it in.

donating today: photo album (never used), 5 CDs

will p/u paving stones from a friends house to use in backyard (recycle/reuse), that project will be 90% complete tomorrow.

So far I have kept my promise to myself about getting things done around the house instead of going out and window shopping or other useless mind-numbing activities.

My trip to the hardware store only yielded items I needed for my landscape project.

Pat on my back and an extra cookie for me!

@ lazycow: Be careful with the "anything on the floor" rule. My mom gave me the same line when I was a kid. I followed it too. *evil grin* I left out my backpack, books & school supplies. She was quite surprised and she had to re-adjust the rule LOL! :D

lol on that! lazycow, I'm going to start a 'uncluttering your kids' thread, we can brainstorm together :)
Some random justincase stuff from the cupboards
I superglued some string to some little figures my ds1 made ages ago that have been sitting on a bookshelf, they can be Christmas tree decorations.

@ClutterPounds, yes, that sounds like something my daughter *would* do. Will amend rule accordingly :-)

@lottielot, I'll see you over on your new thread.

This weekend I've gotten rid of 10 more books, 3 CDs, some clothes, recycle a stack of paper and a bunch of random computer cables and a broken fan.

I pick of the keys to my new apartment Tuesday and can't wait. Now I can unpack,

I think this forum has gotten to me. It's a rare occasion that I get to sleep late, but this morning my eyes popped open at 5:30 and what is the first thing I thought about? "I need to clean the refrigerator and freezer today." I guess I needed to labor on Labor Day. LOL It's now 7:30 and my refrigerator and it's freezer is clean and I've done two batches of laundry. I'm off to a good start. It's gonna be a busy day, but at least I got something accomplished. Other than old and expired food, I found my 4 1/2 year old grandson's teething ring in the freezer. I tossed it without too much thought. :)

I gently asked my wife if there was anything on the curio shelf she no longer loved and could toss. She tossed a little toy car.

She also agreed to move a large stack of old college textbooks off the bookcase and into storage.

Hooray for Labor Day! I just threw out three FULL bags of two-year-old NutriSystem meals. They didn't work anyway. ;-)

    Started ATAD challenge: 7/22/10
Items out: 32 (getting behind, but it'll be EASY to catch up. LOTS o' stuff to throw out...)

    Threw out:
some old playing cards that were ratty
    playing card boxes and jokers/instructions
    holder for coasters
photo envelopes from Costco with the index print
lights on/off timer that still works but really is annoying to program ... not worth my mental time
directions for an old cordless phone that we no longer have

    To recycle/garage sale:
    heart shaped votive holder

    Organized:
two drawers in the living room end tables
put the SkipBo cards into a ziplock bag

    Started Challenge: 8/29/10
I am now "lighter" by this many items: 8

Someone posted this earlier: "When you can't remember what you tossed into the donate bag a few hours ago, you know you must not have needed it... "

How true! I had to go look in the recycling bin to see what I tossed, and it was only an hour ago that I did it!

    More stuff out:

    old catalogs
    old magazines
    newspapers from last week

    Garage sale/donate:
    3 books

    To someone else:
gave my son my husband's electric toothbrush since DH doesn't like it (I will have to use the charger on a weekly basis, though)

AND!!! I took all of DH's piles of stuff and put them onto the dining room table. Not a great spot, I know, but at least it's grouped in one place and is a real eyesore. Maybe he will do something about it!)

    Started Challenge: 8/29/10
I am now "lighter" by this many items: 14 (counted the catalogs as 1 item and the magazines as 1 item)

(I could get used to this!)

lottielot—I laughed out loud at your post about the toy.

Yesterday: Used that last little bit of lotion in a tube that's been sitting on the shelf with the last bit of lotion in it for months. Tossed the tube. Was some expensive things I bought at the Benefits counter 'cause all their stuff is so cool. I'm over it now. :)

After I weeded my closet the other day and moved some sweaters off of hangers to a shelf, I put one on this morning and whoops!, it's way too big! Guess it had been awhile since I wore it. Start of a new thrift store bag....

Decluttered my car this morning so my husband and drive his friend and friend's girl friend to the airport (husband has a small pickup with only 2 seats). In a bit I'll do some errands and wash/vacumn the car as well.

Also been decluttering my email and unsubscribing to things that I no longer want to get on a regular basis. :)

Half-used shower gel and exfoliating facewash which are good quality but don't suit my difficult skin, to my husband's ex-wife. I know, I know - it's weird.

She is the ultimate packrat and would happily take EVERYTHING we declutter. I think if I offered her my old worn-out underwear she would take it. I think she has a bit of a hoarding problem, or a fear of scarcity, sadly. Her house is twice the size of our apartment and contains at least ten times as much stuff, apparently. I avoid giving her most things as it's equivalent to putting it in landfill as she never uses it, but half-used toiletries can't be donated elsewhere and I'm happy to pass on anything consumable.
