Yes Laetitia, there's a Spotlight about 15 minutes in 2 directions from my house. I'm not fussed on the quality of their quilting fabric though. I figure I have more than enough WIPs and UFOs to get me through at the moment. I also have 3 quilting shops within a 5 minute drive and they are all competing against each other so have good loyalty programs. I try not to buy fabric at full price. Really need to work through my UFO stash.

Just need to find my sewing room first. It's my biggest uncluttering project. It's full of kids toys to go to playgroup - which I forgot again this morning! It has been a staging room for about 3 months now.

Kaz - are you able to get to Spotlight? They have some basic solid and patterned fat quarters for around $4 or $5 or less on sale. Maybe I shouldn't mention this on an uncluttering forum. ;-)

Gee, thanks for that Claycat! Just what I needed a link to a material site. I have resisted Etsy for so long!!!
Zora - I too have a stash that has increased in value. Most of our quilting cottons are now $30 AUD a metre. Luckily I have enough projects started to keep me going for a while since I didn't finish anything last year, and unless it gets cooler this winter coming I may need to look at another hobby. It gets too hot to quilt here in summer.

Zora, if there is material you don't want, you can sell it at Etsy!

http://www.etsy.com/

Here is some material that is selling right now.

http://www.etsy.com/search_results.php?search_type=supplies&search_query=cotton+material

Think of it this way. It's now expensive enough that you're not likely to be purchasing a lot more to add to your stash, and that means you'll need to use up what you've already got if you want to sew.

If anything, the high prices will encourage you to use what you have, rather than let it sit there while you go get more.

I have been able to resist buying any more cloth for a long time ... I have so much stashed. Today I bought a couple of yards that I needed to finish up an old project; I didn't have anything that would do. I was boggled to find that this simple cotton cloth cost $12 a yard. The lady in the shop said that even plain quilter's cottons now started at $9 a yard. (I checked online and that seems to be the bottom price there too, unless you find a sale.)

I bought a lot of my cloth when it was half that price or less. Now it has doubled in value! My hoarding has been rewarded. This is wonderful and terrible.
I don't need to have my bad habits reinforced :)
