Nellieb, I actually managed to photograph, box up, weigh, and list 15 items today! I'm exhausted but feeling pleased. The Pfaltzgraff I put on already has a bid!

claycat, I listed one item this morning and it was sold within the hour! (I often put BIN pricing so buyers can get immediate satisfaction!) I listed three this evening...but, I get 5 or so free listings per month so I was using my free ones today!

Too tired to list any more...will have to wait until the next special! eBay sales are finally picking up again, I'm so happy!

Good luck!

I'm still unpacking - got to that stage where I don't know where to put things. Hoping to spend tomorrow brain storming solutions.

Two more boxes of books etc to the charity shop or released into the wild!

Nellieb, that's wonderful! I got that eBay notice today, too. I was just in Austin buying some book boxes and mug boxes since I had nothing those sizes. I guess I'm going to list as much as I can tomorrow. Listing marathon day! I will be thinking of you doing the same.

I've been working on our storage unit in preparation of moving this year. We changed to half the size of our unit last month which was great because we both got rid of quite a few items. I have been going to the new unit and pulling out a few items every week to sell. Tomorrow is 50% off on auction style items on eBay, so I plan to list more items!

Moving is a great incentive to release items that are no longer used or meaningful!

OMG the MEDIA. I have taken to sneaking DVDs into the Goodwill bag. We have 100s - I'm a collector too - but once we've *not watched something* for 4+ years, I think it's time to get rid of it.

I also have 100s of CDs and DH set up this elaborate system for high-quality digital copying ("backup") on our main computer. The problem is, the high-quality copies can't be read by my iPod (which he gave me) nor burned to disc; they have to be converted first into WAV or WMA or whatever. Twice the work and time, yay!

And then there's the TEXTBOOKS. For the undergrad degree that was finished 20 years ago. Oh help.

Maybe we should start a thread on Clutter Wars! LOL

DH would NOT. let me toss any form of media, books, CDs, DVDs or VHS tapes (we let go of the VHS player a few years ago). Needless to say we don't agree on which movies are definite keepers, other than The Princess Bride and the complete boxed set of MASH episodes.

Another thing I'm looking forward to is consolidating. It happened so that I didn't have a fully functional, dedicated linen closet until we move to our new house. Some linens are in bedrooms, some are in the basement, others are in the linen closet. When I have everything in one place it will be so much easier to cull - how many pillowcases to you really need, anyway?

Thank for the pics, badkitty! I'm looking forward to my own post-move decluttering, i.e. tossing whatever doesn't fit into the new house.

nellieb - that sounds like a great plan. My mom was somewhat of a chinaholic, then I realized that if the most people my house can fit is 12, then I'll have a service for 12 and that's it, no need to have enough dishes to cater a party of 50. Now she's trying to convince me to have some of her unwanted china. One special set of tea cups I'm saving, the others can go.

Congrats on your move and all the uncluttering prior to it. My boyfriend and I have decided to buy a home together, probably single story, and will be combining our stuff. I have been uncluttering for months! The move will encompass three stops: my condo, his townhome, and the small storage room we have. We started talking what we both liked when it comes to furnishings and I told him it must be a minimalistically set up as I do not want any clutter at all! He's going to have one room for himself and he can decorate in there! Meanwhile, tomorrow I'm donating an entire set of china, does not have enough value to list on eBay, and it was given to me by a neighbor so there is no sentimental attachment.

Moving is such a fine time for uncluttering!

Some more photos for those who fancy a peek! The house is more unpacked, the white goods have made it in, the bed is built, and we have telphone and internet - huzzah!

And.... more stuff has been added to the charity shop pile.

I've really felt the difference when I was unpacking - the impact of less stuff. I have empty shelves in my kitchen cupboards!

Hurray on the move! enjoy setting up your new house. I loved it when I had more (and more and more) stuff to give away after the move and the pre-move decluttering. My daughter's school was holding a big garage sale with all proceeds going towards leukemia research, and I was thrilled to donate as much stuff towards this.

Looking forward to see the pictures!

Right, we've moved!

H loves the garage (and the house - he hadn't seen it before so I was really nervous about my choice!) and the old bookshelves have been reconsigned to hold his many spares and tools.

While unpacking I found qnother two large bags worth of stuff to go to a charity shop! I was shocked at that. Ther is always something!

I am loving having more kitchen cupboards, so instead of overflowing, they're half empty.

Aunt Cloud, H has so much cable clutter that I have assigned a couple of boxes in a cupboard and they can all live in there!

H sorted through his boxes (the empty gadget ones) and the ones remaining have gone into the new loft with the flattened packing boxes, and we aren't alowed to put anything else up there anyways.

i'm hoping to post soem new photos soon, but I am at the in-laws this weekend, and my camer is at home. I hated moving thr stuff ourselves (I swear I'll kil H if we don't get a removal company next time - I did not enjoy carrying the washing machine up the stairs to the entrance)

The linen closet was easy to unpack and pack - it was already in preassigned boxes - straight out of one cupboard, into the van - straight into the cupboard at the other side. The sorted odds and ends drawers did the same :).

Mid america mum - I know what you mean. Landlord just told him he knew of a rare series landrover for sale. Grrrrrrr

To day was an ikea trip - we had a dining table but no chairs - so we got 4 cheap folding ones that can be repurposed as patio furniture when we get our first new dining table set. I also bought a cutlery tray as I didn't have one, two mats to keep dirt out and two rugs to catch the tea spills on the new carpet. H got some more garage shelves. All in all, not too bad!

badkitti- that is great he can have the man cave! Hope the move is going well!

Mine used to have one, and a den... But now he has more of a man corner in our bedroom- that is cluttered. At least it is confined to that spot.

Now if there was an alarm for anything crossing the threshold that shouldn't come in, that is something I would pay bucks for.

I worried about getting rid of cables to, but I finale just sorted them all out, and made sure all my electronics had cables for them and gave the rest to my computer geek boyfriend who said he always needed cables, and can look at a cable and know exactly what it's for. Then he recently decided to sort through two totes that were mostly filled with cables and other random computer stuff. emptied one tote which I gave to a friend and filled the other with stuff and I listed the whole thing on freecycle and some guy came and picked it up, the few he kept fit under the bed in a tote he has under there.

Ah, the "we will need those boxes when we move" stack.
It's not easy, but they really serve no purpose (unless they're in a good enough shape to pack the remotes or something).

I struggle with cable clutter that surfaces whenever we move. Good luck finding the camera cable or the little thingie that you need to charge your MP3 player. We have cable and electronic miscellenia floating around which I dread chucking.

On a lighter note: aren't decluttered cabinets a cinch to pack? I have some ultra-functional kitchen cabinets and I'm actually pretty proud of my linen closet. These will get packed at the very last moment, since there's nothing redundant in there.

I hate moving, and my boyfriend just came home yesterday talking about applying for a job four hours from where we live now and asked how I felt about it. I want him to be happy so I told him to go ahead. I was kind meh about it for a while, then started thinking about all the uncluttering possibilities it could have for us and I'm way more optimistic about it now than I was yesterday. There's no guarantee any of it will even happen, but Its gotten me motivated to do more uncluttering regardless. If I won't keep it and haul it to a new place, there's not reason to keep it here now. I told him there is no way I am hauling all those book to yet another apartment. I just took a whole stack and listed them on bookmooch. Anything I can give away on Bookmooch before we move is going to the library.

Well, its move day - 1, so the house looks terrible now - boxes everywhere!

On the good side there is atleast tree more bags pf stuff to take to the charity shop.

I had one cupboard full of boxes - empty boxes - that electronic gadgets came in, some we no longer have! At least it was easy to persuade H to get rid of those! What a waste of cupboard space.
