Does anyone know if USA thrift stores typically accept cassette tapes? It's time to unclutter my 20lb box of tapes that I have been dragging around for years and years but I'm not sure of the best way to pass them on. Donate? Recycle somehow?

Welcome to the ATAD challenge !

The challenge is about getting rid of one object a day, for... a month ? A year ? It´s up to you how long you want your challenge to last.

Whether you give away, trash or donate the object is immaterial, but it must be gone from your life and space. Putting it into storage doesn´t count; though you are allowed to, say, collect the things in a box to donate them at the end of the month.

Oh, and you´re also allowed to cheat and fill your quota ahead of time, like throwing out 7 things on Monday, making that a week´s worth of ATAD.

By telling us on here what you got rid of today will not only help with the accountability issues, you´ll also help others rethink their possessions (he got rid of his xyz ? Come to think of it, do I really need mine ?)

So, what did you set free today ?

I have about 12 paint cans from all the rooms we painted and some primer but have no idea what to do with them? I don't want to ge trid of them in case of touch up but is there a good way of storing these? Can paint stay in a garage in the winter and not ruin it? Live in delaware. Thanks.

I try to donate or recycle what I can. But some things are just not wanted anywhere. Specifically this set of encyclopedias from 1990. Libraries and schools have more current references or have digital libraries.

I hate to add more to the landfill just so I can get rid of stuff.

I hope you don't mind that I started a thread for you, but I didn't want a few things to get buried in what will be a long thread.

First, you are doing great - you started. The more things you get rid of, the easier it will become. Allow yourself to feel good about your successes even if it seems minuscule to you.

A women's emergency shelter might take the lotion sample. Maybe you have more excess products that you could donate at the same time.

The chocolate box. I understand that it's pretty, but is it useful right now? If it isn't, it's really just garbage. Right?

I'm hoping someone can give me some advice. I don't have too much of a problem decluttering (except for the fact that I can never seem to find the time). I hate Stuff and I like to purge.

BUT- I have 5 huge bins in the basement of things that I'm "getting rid of" and they've been in the house for the past year...
I struggle to find the "right" charity, or should I sell on ebay, or should I Freecycle, or should I give it to friends, or should I re-gift, or should I donate it to make raffle baskets, or I could make homemade rags...

I hate to waste anything, if I find a paper clip when I'm vacuuming I pick it up and put it in my pocket to put away. I keep stale bread to feed the birds. A tiny piece of Lego goes back into the box. The thought that my things (some nice) might go to waste just kills me.

For example, I can't just give it all to Goodwill. I stress that the people who need the items won't get them, or the charity will throw it away. The children's clothes go to a great children's charity I know. They take my clean folded clothes & hang them up right in front of you & the needy go there & choose what they want (but they only take in-season clothes because of space, so I'm left storing the rest).

Anybody have any suggestions for me? Thanks.

I have (what I think) is a unique problem of writing things down and making lists. I use many different papers (looseleaf, blank white, spiral notebook, 3-ring binders, post its, 3x5 cards, etc).

I end up writing things in different places, then I'll decide to just use one, and transcribe everything from one to the other, then I'm at work and don't have my notebook or 3-ring binder with me, so I use lined paper to make the day's notes, or to-do list....then sometimes when I get home, I don't even take out the paper to utilize the lists, thoughts, etc.

I've tried online, using email, organizers, and nothing seems to work....I have an iphone, and have tried the to-do sites that even have iphone apps....

I always say I'm a highly organized person on the inside, but outwardly when it comes to this type of paper clutter, I cannot seem to tackle it....

I will add that while some of the things get done, most don't...my lists include everything from what I need to do today, to things that I am thinking about doing, random thoughts, etc...

Then there's the bills and other paperwork.....

Anyone else have these experiences? Or have you found a solution?

Tired of it!! ;-)
