My sister-in-law about 28 years ago was in a car accident, she hasn't been the same since. She was a young lady at the time and her legs were badly damaged. They had to put plates in her legs and she was at the age of still growing. She has had many surgeries and a lot of pain along the way. Years later she had a mini stroke due to her health with her legs. She recently lost her son to a drug over dose. Just before Christmas her only transportation her car broke down. Her brother my husband and my son helped with the cost and the repairs to her car. My son went to his aunts house to take his aunt to get things going regarding her car. My son told me later that his Aunts house was horrible and said it was liking watching an episode of Hoarders. Do you go to homes and help out families who just need a break in life. She has a daughter living with her and her grandchild. Its hard for me to say this but the daughter isn't any help and just adding more to her mother. My sister -in-law legs swell up if she is on them to long. I can't imagine if I lived with my mother and the living conditions were like that I would clean the place up. How do you raise a baby in those conditions.

I know I'm "new" (I've been lurking for a long while, really, I'm just more of the quiet type) but... I wanted to suggest opening more sections (or a "general" section for discussion of other shows, per thread, not to clutter the section) in "Uncluttering and Organizing in the Media"?

Right now there's just forums for Hoarders, but there are so many other good shows I'd love to discuss with other people- Clean Sweep, Clean House, Hoarding: Buried Alive, and other types of less-organizing, more-room/house-remaking shows that I think would be interesting to share with others.

If there's already a section for them and I missed it please point me to it! <3

I've searched and tried to find an answer to this in the forum. But to no avail.

What o the abbreviations mean that are often used to describe family members, e.g. DH?

Cheers

Hi everyone. I'm so glad to find a place to share about uncluttering and organizing. I've been trying to do it for years.
I have a couple of boxes of used VHS tapes that I'd like to find a place to recyle them or donate them, maybe for repurposing. I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

My siblings and I need some serious advice. We all grew up in the same house of 30+ yrs. For Christmas we come home for about a week to be with our parents. The house has always been cluttered. We've voiced our concerns repeatedly to our parents, but they don't seem to care or don't want anything done about it.
At Christmas Eve it's a mad rush to get things cleaned - just to be able to sit and eat at a table or to sleep in a bed. Stacks of clothes, boxes have to be moved off beds. Various odds and ends are on the tables, counters, even the stove. There is mold, animal waste, and bugs everywhere.
Procrastination, perfectionism, and blame seem to rule.

There are no nearby hotels or other places to stay at. We want to have time to celebrate the holidays instead of cleaning, making new stacks, etc each year.
Also our parents won't hire or let us hire anyone to get things put together - more functional.

Any advice?

Santa's reluctant cleaning elf.

I have finally cleaned up and organized my garage (although I think we need to do a second pass to eliminate some of the stored items.) Anyway, I wanted to put up signs in the garage that would help up to easily store and find our newly organized garage... something like you might find in a hardware store or Home Depot.

I have been looking online and have not found anything. I was looking for signs that would have printed on them Gardening, Lawn Equipment and Chemicals, Paint, Electrical, Plumbing, Tools, Seasonal, etc.

Any ideas on what I might do or where I might find something like that??

Thanks

I've tried posting a reply here several times: http://unclutterer.com/discuss/topic/selling-books

I click submit, it refreshes the page, but my reply is not there. I've tried reloading the page, logging out and then back in, but the result is always the same.

I just posted a reply here a few minutes ago without any problems, so I'm confused: http://unclutterer.com/discuss/topic/moving-overseas/page/5

trillie on "Tags"

Hi :o) I have two questions concerning the tags for the forum topics. First of all, it seems to me like they are not used by many people, and that may be the case because it seems there is no other way than to browse all the existing tags than to look for a thread that has no tags yet, and then click on "Tags". Or I have to enter http://unclutterer.com/discuss/tags/directly into my browser's address bar. Would it be possible to add this as a link at the bottom of the forum main page? A "search tags" or "search topics" box would be great, too.

Also, I have noticed that sadly, there are many advertising tags (such as "Tiffany replica" and "ts converter"). It's not easy to make sure they are never entered in the first place, and manually deleting them takes time. A solution could be some sort of 'tag voting system' where users can vote for tags they think are appropriate for a topic, and tags getting 0 votes will automatically be deleted after a while.

Of course, my questions/suggestions imply that you believe it makes sense to add more (complicated?) features to this forum -- which is, in my eyes, already pretty perfect as it is, because it is simplistic and, well, uncluttered. So these are merely suggestions, because I don't know your goal as far as the forum scope is concerned.

Thanks! Also, thank you for this great blog and forum!

Also, are there forum usage instructions anywhere? I can't find any, other than the two lines (about allowed markup) at the bottom of the post-composition pane.

i have always lived in the thick of mess- piles and pathways- dirty laundry, clean laundry, 1/2 finished crafty projects, filthy dishes- you name it. i was this way, even as a little kid... i wasn't really bothered by the fact that my friends couldn't come over because my room wasn't clean- instead of cleaning my room i would just shove things around enough that there was space for me to make some more mess.

but now i am creeping up on 30 and i have been living on my own for a decade and i am starting to be really bothered by the fact that my little friends can't come over to play and i can't really cook myself dinner because there isn't a pot clean enough to cook and then eat out of...

What is it that's wrong with me? i used to think that that having my things in order just wasn't important- to me and if it ever did become important - to me i would be able to just get right to it.

NOT TRUE.

i need my life to change i want it to change and i feel absolutely powerless to do anything to really change it, or myself.

Please someone help me.
